Meditation in Genesis Part 2

Continuation from Meditation on Genesis Part 1.

Genesis 3, Biblical Comments; ASV Bible Text

1 Now the serpent was more subtle than any beast of the field which Jehovah God had made. And he said to the woman, Yea, has God said, You shall not eat of any tree of the garden? …

Comments Genesis 3:1. The serpent in this verse is not like the serpent nowadays. The serpent that the first humans faced was a spiritual serpent, which is why the serpent could trick humans.

14 And Jehovah God said to the serpent, Because you have done this, cursed are you above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; on your belly shall you go, and dust shall you eat all the days of your life: 15 and I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her seed: …

Comments Genesis 3:15. We could have many questions about this chapter. In this verse, when it says, “enmity between the offspring of the woman and the offspring of the serpent,” it is because the Lord has created humans in His image, and the serpent in this place is a tool of the evil one. The power of the dark stays between humans and the Lord; if humans disobey, then humans open the bridge to the evil one to cross. The space between humans’ offspring and evil will be bridged only when humans disobey the Lord. When the humans disobey the commandment of the Lord, they open the door for the serpent to enter. Only the Holy Word of God can break that bridge that humans have created. Because the Word of the Lord is living, the Word becomes a shield for the human soul. The evil one cannot latch onto the soul of a human if that soul stays under the blood of God’s Son, who is the Lord Jesus.

22 And Jehovah God said, Behold, the man has become as one of us, to know good and evil; and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live forever— …

Comments Genesis 3:22. The meaning of the verse is clear: the tree of life is not for a sinful human to eat. If they did not disobey the Lord, they would get to eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil; they would get this one (the tree of life) as a gift and live forever. But because they disobeyed, they never had the chance to eat from the tree of life.

Genesis 4, Biblical Comments; ASV Bible Text

1 And the man knew Eve his wife; and she conceived, and bore Cain, and said, I have gotten a man with the help of Jehovah. 2 And again she bore his brother Abel. And Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground. 3 And in process of time it came to pass, …

Comments Genesis 4:1-3. We can notice in this chapter that many time gaps are happening.

… 6 And Jehovah said to Cain, Why are you angry? And why is your countenance fallen? 7 If you do well, shall it not be lifted up? And if you do not well, sin couches at the door; and to you shall be its desire; but do you rule over it. … 15 And Jehovah said to him, Therefore whosoever slays Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold. And Jehovah appointed a sign for Cain, lest any finding him should smite him. 16 And Cain went out from the presence of Jehovah, and dwelt in the land of Nod, on the east of Eden. 17 And Cain knew his wife; …

Comments Genesis 4:6-17. The Word of the Lord is full of mystery. From Adam and Eve, we are given just the names of a few children. However, they have born many children. Some went out and scattered around and made more children. The time evolution has not been given to us clearly because, at that time, the Presence of the Lord made human life different. Specifically, because of the Presence of the Lord, the human body was stronger. The Bible doesn’t give the age of all the people, but all of them lived a long life in that time.
“Don’t let sin rule over you.” Most of the names the Lord has given in this chapter are of the people who let sin rule over them and made humans full of corruption.

The Presence of God is only in the Garden of Eden itself, but those living outside, around the Garden of Eden, can see and feel it. The ones outside the garden, far away, can see the Light (the Presence of the Lord), but they don’t face the Presence of the Lord. The flesh of humans living around the Presence of God receives the Light of the Lord, and this makes them different.

Even though the men sinned, the Lord’s mercy was shown upon them. Even though the Lord drove Cain away, the Lord’s mercy is still upon him; for the Lord to put the sign on him is also to remind humans that he is under the Lord’s protection even though he has committed a great sin.

Genesis 5, Biblical Comments; ASV Bible Text

1 This is the book of the generations of Adam. In the day that God created man, in the likeness of God made he him; 2 male and female created he them, and blessed them, and called their name Adam, in the day when they were created. 3 And Adam lived a hundred and thirty years, and begat a son in his own likeness, after his image; and called his name Seth: … 24 and Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him. … 28 And Lamech lived a hundred eighty and two years, and begat a son: 29 and he called his name Noah, saying, This same shall comfort us in our work and in the toil of our hands, which cometh because of the ground which Jehovah hath cursed. 30 And Lamech lived after he begat Noah five hundred ninety and five years, and begat sons and daughters: 31 And all the days of Lamech were seven hundred seventy and seven years: and he died. 32 And Noah was five hundred years old: and Noah begat Shem, Ham, and Japheth.

Genesis 6, Biblical Comments; ASV Bible Text

1 And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the ground, and daughters were born to them, 2 that the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all that they chose. …

Comments Genesis 6:1-2. From these verses, we can conclude that the world at that time was much different than our world today. Here, we can notice the earth above earth world that we talk about in our comments regarding the end time (See The Second Coming of the Lord Jesus Christ). This earth above the earth world will come again and be in effect at the end of time when the Lord Jesus returns to earth. The world we have now is nothing like the world before the flood, and for us today, it is difficult to understand it. The Lord gives only a little information about this world, and we should not make imaginary stories about it; there is no further knowledge given to us beyond the Word of God. No human history or archeology can describe the world before the flood.

Meditation Tasks:

  1. Read Genesis chapters 3 to 6 and meditate on the comments we posted.
  2. Meditate on the sin of Adam and Eve, how it entered the world, and how, through the Lord Jesus, we can make peace with God the Father.
