Introduction
The Lord God Almighty is full of compassion and love. Throughout the Word of God, from the beginning to the end, we witness His miraculous work in creation and in people’s lives. The Lord Jesus, the Son of God, came to Earth and walked among us, teaching the way to the Father, demonstrating love and compassion to all, and performing many miracles. The question we must ask ourselves is: Do we truly marvel at the Lord Jesus’ miracles and comprehend their significance? Do we give glory to the Lord Jesus as God of the Holy Trinity?
Additionally, when we hear about the miracles the Lord God Almighty performs in people’s lives today—whether spiritual or physical healings—do we truly marvel, or do we tend to doubt? Often, these kinds of doubts prevent us from giving the Lord God Almighty the glory He deserves. We must remind ourselves, that even if we do not see the same miraculous healings that the Lord Jesus performed during His time on Earth, we should still marvel at the miracles of the salvation of souls. When a person turns to the Lord Jesus, this is a witness of a miraculous work happening in the spiritual world; a soul has chosen light over darkness.
In this blog, we examine the wonder of the multitude who witnessed the Lord Jesus’ miracles during His time on Earth, as described in Matthew 15:29-32, and consider the reasons for their marvel.
The Lord Jesus Heals Those Coming to Him
While the Lord Jesus walked among people as a Man, they heard of Him, and many chose to follow Him. However, some followed for the right reasons, while others did so for personal motives. But the Lord Jesus loves all His children and has compassion for everyone. He came to Earth not to take all the sufferings of this Earth, but to bring the good news of the salvation of souls. We might find ourselves in a similar situation to those who lived during His time, as many misunderstood His mission of salvation. Let’s take a look at the Bible passage from Matthew 15:29-32.
Matthew 15:29 And having departed from there, Jesus went along the sea of Galilee; and having gone up on the mountain, He sat there.
30 And approached Him great multitudes, having with them lame, crippled, blind, mute, and many others, and they placed them down at His feet; and He healed them;
Comments Matthew 15:29-30. In this paragraph, it shows what people have heard about Jesus, and it shows that they believe that the Lord can do what they have been hearing. It was not easy for people to carry the sick to the Lord on the mountain, and the Lord had mercy on them.
31 insomuch that the multitude marveled, seeing mute speaking, crippled whole, and lame walking, and blind seeing; and they glorified the God of Israel.
Comments Matthew 15:30-31. Here, it is a confirmation for the majority of people; they heard about the Lord Jesus’ miracles, but now a multitude of people have seen them. Now the word about the Lord Jesus will spread wider because not a few have seen, but many people have seen. The glory of God has been witnessed through the multitude of people, and the word will spread speedily that God has come down among humans. God does not sit on His throne watching, but God has come down and witnessed the suffering of people, and He will show mercy and carry all their suffering (see Matthew 8:17). However, they misunderstood the mission of the Lord Jesus on Earth. The Lord Jesus did not come to take away their suffering but to give them the good news. The Lord Jesus takes part in their suffering and knows what humans go through. Humans will still face suffering, but in their hearts, they can be joyful that God knows about their suffering. We are to look for the world to come, not for this earthly world; come and join and be part of the next world, where all the suffering is gone.
32 Then Jesus having called His disciples, said, I have compassion on the multitude, because they continue with Me already three days and have nothing to eat; and I am not willing to send them away not eating, lest they faint on the way.
Comments Matthew 15:32. As we read about the feedings of the multitudes described in the Gospel of Matthew, one might wonder whether these are distinct events occurring in different places. The logical answer is that there was a gap of time between the feeding miracles and a gap of places. Specifically, this miracle is not in the same place or time as the one in Chapter 14. Only on a few occasions did the Lord Jesus stop longer in one place. The purpose of the Lord Jesus’ coming to Earth was to preach the Word of God, and the Word cannot be preached in one spot only. He traveled all the time. This here was a different place, a different area, but the Bible shows that the speed of the human tongue is faster than we can imagine. Before the Lord Jesus reached this place, the word about Him had already been there to make the hearts of people wait for Him. The Lord has come here to confirm and strengthen the good news that God has come among humans. Because the Holy Spirit had not yet been given, the Lord used the human tongue (word of mouth) to spread the good news.
“I am not willing to send them away not eating ...” This passage clearly shows the compassion and mercy the Lord has for people. The Lord’s mercy is always there for those who follow Him (including us). He was unwilling to send the people away until they had something to eat.
Conclusions
We have confirmation of the miracles of the Lord Jesus as documented in the Holy Bible. His miraculous works among humanity are numerous, but for any follower of the Lord Jesus, the most extraordinary miracle is His work of salvation through His sacrifice on the cross at Calvary. This includes the shedding of His blood, His resurrection from the dead, His ascension to the Father, and the promise He made to send the Holy Spirit to baptize all who ask and seek Him. No miracle on Earth is more significant than the acts that the Lord Jesus performed for the entire human race (see Comments Matthew 12:39-40). We should all marvel at the salvation work and the hope of eternal life given to us by our dear Lord Jesus. Moreover, the Lord Jesus is the loving and merciful God; He never forgets His children; He doesn’t forget the dead, how much more will He remember the living? Therefore, whenever we are in need or facing difficulties, we should pray for mercy from God the Father in the name of His beloved Son, the Lord Jesus. Through the working of the Holy Spirit, all blessed miracles can occur: physical healing, spiritual healing, and physical and spiritual blessings (see Comments Matthew 10:8).
